9 young Irish Soldiers, who gave their lives at Niemba, Belgian Congo on 8th November 1960, are remembered at the opening of this Memorial by Minister Michael Smith at St. Marys Church, Thurles on the 11th November 2001.
They were:- Lieut. Gleeson K.M., Sgt. Gaynor H., Cpl. Kelly P., Cpl. Dougan L., Pte. Farrell M., Tpr. Fennell T., Pte. Mc Guinn M., Pte. Kileen G., and Tpr. Brown A.
